Pearl Harbor Shipyard Accident Kills Two

Hawaii News reports that two civilian contract workers were killed and two others sustained serious personal injuries while working on a barge at a Pearl Harbor Facility off of the Waipio peninsula. According to Emergency Medical Services, the 4 civilians were working on a floating concrete block when a 10,000-pound buoy fell. The buoy hit and killed two workers, and two others were injured trying to escape.

Construction sites are filled with hazards and are among the most dangerous places to work in Hawaii and construction workers face threats to their health and safety daily in the course of earning a living. Injuries can be serious, including traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries, leaving a victim partially or fully disabled for life. In the most tragic cases, a grieving family is left to carry on after the death of the victim. Whether your injury will allow you to return to work in a matter of weeks or months, or if it will result in a long-term loss of earning power, you deserve fair compensation for your lost wages, as well as for your pain and suffering.

Whenever workplace accident occurs, several different considerations must be evaluated. First, in many situations workers compensation laws provide compensation for lost wages and medical expenses. In other situations, it may be possible to file a third party civil lawsuit. This may the case where a personal injury or wrongful death occurs as the result of the actions of a third party contractor, a defective piece of machinery or other outside source.

The accident remains under investigation.
