The Importance of An Investigation Following a Personal Injury Accident

Hawaii News Now reports that a young man, a former Kamehameha football player, was killed in a pedestrian accident this past week. The man was crossing Farrington Highway in Nanakuli when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old woman who allegedly fled the scene. Police detained her shortly thereafter.

While the accident remains under investigation, speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors. This is the 14th fatal pedestrian accident this year. Last year at this time 17 pedestrian deaths had occurred.

Pedestrian accidents can happen for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, they are the result of reckless or distracted driver. A driver who is drunk or texting may not be paying attention to people crossing the street – whether in a walkway or not, ending in tragic results.

Other times, the roadways are designed in ways that make it difficult for pedestrians to navigate – such as where they lack sidewalks, or have narrow shoulders. Sometimes the roadways are not properly maintained – putting pedestrians in danger as they try to avoid obstructions or debris.

As a result, whenever an accident happens it is important to investigate all of the factors and circumstances that may have lead to an accident occurring.
