Car Accidents Leading Cause of Death For Young Adults

Hawaii News Now reports that one woman has died in a fatal car accident in Puna. Initial reports indicate that the woman was driving a sedan and was involved in a crash with a pickup truck. An infant in a car seat in the sedan was also injured, and was transported to a near by hospital. The driver of the pick-up truck was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation.

Each year, thousands of people die nationwide in car accidents. The most recent statistics show that an average of 100 deaths occur in Hawaii each year as the result of car crashes. Further, car accidents are the leading cause of death in young adults and children.

While not all crashes can be eliminated, reducing the number of drunk drivers and increasing the use of seat belts are two common sense steps to reduce risks of injuries.
