School Bus Accident Kills Three

Hawaii News reports that two students have been killed and three other people have suffered serious personal injuries after a car driven by a teacher ran into a school bus. It is unclear whether any charges will be filed.

The accident remains under investigation by local officials and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Whenever a serious accident occurs, several factors must be investigated. For example, its important to evaluate the conduct of the drivers involved – was he or she operating under the influence of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions or being reckless in any manner?

What about the condition of the vehicles? Had the bus in question been properly maintained in good working order? Did the car or bus have any defective or damaged parts that may have been subject to a recall? Further – what about the students on the bus? The bus had been equipped with seat belts but whether the passengers were using them is not known.

Here, reports indicated that the car hit the front driver's side of the bus after swerving to avoid hitting another vehicle. The bus then leaned to the right, struck a guardrail and fell to the road below.
