Hawaii to pay $3M to injured motorcyclist

Hawaii news reports that the city has agreed to pay $3M to a motorcyclist who sustained serious injuries in a crash with a Honolulu Police Officer. The police officer U-turned while traveling on Kalakaua Avenue as the motorcyclist was heading down the road. The motorcyclist then collided with the officer’s vehicle, sustaining serious injuries include a brain injury, broken bones in his spine, and a cracked skull. He was also unable to return to work.

The city agreed to the settlement, noting that their investigation showed that the officer had failed to activate his lights and sirens prior to making the turn.

When accidents occur, it is important to begin an investigation into all the factors surrounding the incident, especially when parties have different versions of the events. This may include determining whether there were any witnesses to the accident, and whether any video footage exists. Due to the prevalence of security cameras in stores, and in many public areas, often accidents are “caught on tape.” This can provide crucial evidence detailing exactly what happened. If you have been injured in an accident, it is important to contact an experienced attorney to begin an investigation into all the factors surrounding the incident. Through diligent investigation an experienced attorney may be able to uncover crucial evidence to help you obtain the maximum compensation you deserve.
