Types of Cerebral Palsy

There is currently no cure for cerebral palsy. Treatment objectives include helping the person lead the best life possible with their condition. There are varying types and degrees of cerebral palsy.

Types of cerebral palsy include:

  • Spastic
  • Dyskinetic
  • Ataxic
  • Hypotonic

Some cerebral palsy cases result from a complicated or traumatic birth. This can include uterine prolapse, shoulder dystocia, or umbilical cord strangulation. Many complications during the labor / delivery process can also result in a lack of oxygenated blood to the baby's brain, resulting in cerebral palsy.

If your doctor failed to exercise reasonable care or meet accepted standards and your baby was born with cerebral palsy, you may have a birth injury claim.

When a medical practitioner makes a mistake during the delivery of a child, it can result in devastating physical conditions such as brain damage and cerebral palsy. This can include using forceps incorrectly, not recognizing that an umbilical cord has wrapped around the child's neck, improper or no treatment of seizures, jaundice and meningitis; allowing the child to remain too long in the birth canal, and not performing a cesarean section when needed.

Identifying the cause of cerebral palsy is important when pursuing compensation. Attorneys at Bostwick & Peterson will \investigate your case to determine if a medical professional's negligence or carelessness resulted in the injury.

Our firm is highly skilled in cases involving medical malpractice, and will fight for the monetary damages you deserve, including compensation for hospitalization, medical treatment, long-term care, pain, suffering and emotional trauma.
