A recent study has shown a direct link between sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a child, and prolonged effects on attention span and intelligence. Children often sustain TBIs as the result of car accidents, sports injuries, or bike accidents. The effects of TBIs may last a lifetime.
According to the research, the children were tested roughly 1 and ½ years after the injuries occurred, and teachers and parents identified several sustained issues such as decreased attention spans, increased aggression, and difficulty dealing with emotions such as aggression and anxiety. Of concern was that these issues were present after more than a year – an indication that the injuries were unlikely to resolve themselves.
TBIs are just one potential result of car accidents. If you believe that your child may have sustained a serious brain injury or other harm in a personal injury accident, please contact the experienced Hawaii personal injury lawyers at Bostwick & Peterson, LLP for an immediate consultation.
